The 2019 Subaru Legacy is no thrill machine, but this under-the-radar mid-size sedan is hard to beat for its comfort, safety, and value.
Pros Safety comes standard Roomy, comfortable interior All-season confidence A lot of car for the money
Cons Light on performance Optional 6-cylinder guzzles fuel Just average to look at Rare on dealer lots
Car shoppers looking for a vehicle that can comfortably carry four or five passengers, in deep snowbelt territory, often see SUVs as the only way to get around. But the 2019 Subaru Legacy proves that this midsize sedan has what it takes to keep up when the roads get nasty.
Pros Standard all-wheel drive for extra wet-weather traction Excellent outward visibility Standard active driver assist features
Cons Engines less powerful compared to those of rivals
The 2019 Acura ILX ranked #21 in Luxury Small Cars. Currently the Acura ILX has a score of 7.3 out of 10 which is based on our evaluation of 56 pieces of research and data elements using various sources.
Pros Generous list of standard safety tech Low starting price
Cons Some low-grade interior materials Most rivals are more engaging to drive
The 2019 Acura ILX gets a variety of updates this year. For one, there's new front-end styling, and that change alone might be enough for some shoppers to put the ILX on their list.Refreshed exterior and interior design.Revised dual-screen infotainment interface.Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now available.Standard AcuraWatch safety system
Pros Plenty of features for the money Precise steering feel
Cons Lightweight, plasticky interior trim Many technology features are behind-the-times Below-average acceleration
The ILX is little more than a fancier Honda Civic, but updated styling for 2019 at least has its exterior looking sporty and fresh. The sole powertrain is a 201-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder with front-wheel drive mated to a smooth dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are newly optional, and active-safety features are now standard, but the interior still looks and feels dated. An A-Spec package adds sharper visuals but doesn't back those up with any mechanical changes.
Pros Solid value, quality interior appointments, zingy VTEC four.
Cons Still a bit of a wallflower, tight on rear-seat room and front headroom, dual-screen infotainment takes getting used to.
