Expert Reviews

Expert reviews:

BMW has made a number of features standard across the X1 lineup this year, including driver-assistance features such as forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, parking sensors, and automatic high-beam headlamps. Navigation with real-time traffic updates is also now included, as is Apple CarPlay, but for some reason BMW requires an annual fee for that normally free feature after the first year.

Pros
Sweetheart engine and transmission,
athletic chassis,
capacious cargo hold.

Cons
Unsupportive standard seats,
slow infotainment system,
subtle exterior styling.

The 2019 BMW X1 crossover is the right shape and the right price for entry luxury buyers willing to overlook some flaws.

pros
Good powertrain
Spacious cargo area
Standard automatic emergency braking
Available all-wheel drive...

Cons
...but it’s pricey, like everything else
Styling is aged
Budget materials in lower trims
Why ask more for CarPlay?

By:
thecarconnection.com

The 2019 BMW X1 comes with all wheel drive, and front wheel drive. Available transmissions include: 8-speed shiftable automatic.Navigation with real-time traffic, one year of Apple CarPlay and remote services are now standard.Active driver aids — such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning and high-beam assistant - are now standard.

PROS
Strong and responsive turbo engine
Sharp handling makes it fun to drive
Plenty of rear passenger and cargo room
High-quality materials and fit and finish

CONS
Standard sport suspension may be jarring on rough roads
Not particularly quiet on the highway

By:

It doesn’t really do sharp handling, it’s not quite big enough to match the best in class for practicality, nor does it come with seven seats. Yet don’t overlook the C5 Aircross if those limitations don’t worry you, because it has a lot of other things going for it; its ride is superb on most roads, it cruises along supremely quietly, it has a reasonable purchase price and very reasonable running costs.

Pros
Mostly a super-smooth ride
Quiet inside at speed
Frugal engines

Cons
Wallowy handling
No seven-seat option
Question marks of Citroën's reliability

By:

The C5 Aircross is Citroen's (late) leap onto the family-crossover bandwagon.A plug-in hybrid arrives early in 2020. The big draw with that one will be better fuel economy for commuting, and lower tax. Interestingly Citroen elected to make its PHEV front-drive only to keep the price down. Whereas Peugeot, which sells 3008s at a higher price, went for a more expensive PHEV system with 4WD via an extra rear-mounted motor.

Pros
Very comfortable in all sorts of ways.
Looks different.
No sporty pretence

Cons
No sporty actuality.
Ride not as consistent as billed.
Occasionally irritating screen system

By:
topgear.com

Pros
Eye-catching looks
Generous boot space
Comfortable to drive

Cons
Some low-rent interior bits
Awkward infotainment system
Rear space is tight
