Updated styling elements mark the 2022 model year for the X4. BMW has tweaked the grille, the bumpers, exterior lighting elements, and wheel designs this year and has reworked the X4's center console. The hot M40i model gains a 48-volt hybrid system and larger 12.3-inch infotainment and gauge displays are now standard.

Pros
Nicely balanced chassis,
powerful turbocharged engine options,
cool fastback exterior styling.

Cons
Snug rear seat space,
cargo room not as generous as X3's,
sober interior styling.

PROS
Stonking acceleration from the twin-turbo V-8,
smoothest start-stop system around,
impressive ride and handling balance.

CONS
Lazy transmission tuning,
properly expensive,
heavier and less involving than a similarly capable sports sedan or wagon.
