Unless you need the Suburban's nine-passenger configuration (which is only available on the base LS model), we recommend going with the midlevel LT trim. It comes with a substantial amount of standard equipment and is a solid pick as is. But we'd suggest getting the Luxury package to add some useful driver safety aids and a power liftgate.

The Y62 is powered by the 5.6-litre VK56VD V8 with 400 hp (298 kW) and 560 N·m (410 lb·ft), with features such as Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) and gasoline direct injection (DIG), and mated to a seven-speed automatic. A variable 4×4 mode package allows switching between four drive modes: sand, on-road, rock and snow, with the flick of a switch. And a Hydraulic Body Motion Control System is available.
