Expert Reviews

Expert reviews:

The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is unchanged for 2019

Pros
Premium-feeling and well-trimmed interior
Many standard safety and technology features
Surprisingly comfortable ride quality, given its performance abilities
Even the pavement-pounding AMG GLE 63 S is easy to drive around town

Cons
Roofline compromises backseat headroom
Cargo space is similar to that of a compact SUV
Only two trim levels available
Heavy, with minimal off-road capability

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE finishes in the middle of our luxury midsize SUV rankings. It's comfortable and posh, but the GLE doesn’t rank higher because it isn't as athletic or engaging to drive as many class rivals.

Pros
Powerful engines in AMG trims
Lots of features
Elegant interior

Cons
Rivals are more athletic and fuel-efficient
Coupe models have limited cargo space
Unsettled ride over bigger road bumps

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class can be outfitted to please nearly every luxury-SUV buyer.

Pros
Large variety of body styles and options
Well-done coupe styling
Wealth of powertrain choices
Composed, quiet ride

Cons
Pricey, especially AMG models
Only hybrid models are somewhat efficient
COMAND needs an OVERHAUL
Most popular options locked in expensive package
Coupe loses much-needed utility and costs more
